Jamille Matt was signed to play as a target man up front before the 2020/21 season – and boy did he deliver! Scoring 17 goals in his first season, he advanced on that by finding the net 20 times in 2021/22, leading Rovers to the League Two title as club captain.
As well as power and pace, Jamille brings a wealth of experience to Rovers’ forward play.
With his physical presence in the box, Jamille looks a threat whenever he plays. He has a personality to match, and is respected by his teammates, opponents and fans alike. In May 2022, he was awarded the PFA Fans’ Player of the Season for League Two and was selected in the PFA’s League Two Team of the Year.
His aerial ability and poacher’s instinct were on full display in FGR’s 4-1 demolition of Scunthorpe in October 2020, in which he scored a hat trick. Or should that be a Matt trick? Then, during the 2021/22 season Jamille cemented a formidable partnership with fellow striker Matty Stevens, a combination that totalled 42 league goals, sending FGR to the top of the hill and the top of the table. They became known as the Matt Attack.
As well as power, pace and aerial ability, Jamille brings a wealth of experience to Rovers’ forward play. The Jamaican-born striker has over 290 league appearances to his name, and more than 80 goals. Whenever the ball goes wide, watch for Jamma in the box. When he’s on fire, opposition defences are terrified!
