A strong tackler who reads the game well and puts in the running with and without the ball, Dom Bernard brings defensive balance to FGR’s flowing style of football. Playing predominantly down the left, he bursts forward on the overlap when Rovers are pressing high, but is very effective marking back, cutting off opposition attacks down his wing with vital interceptions. He is also strong in the air.
Dom has become an important presence on the pitch and a leader in the dressing room.
Known for the distinctive cut of his shorts, Dom has become an important presence on the pitch and a leader in the dressing room. He signed with FGR before the 2019/20 season following a pre-season trial and soon became a regular in the side, making 87 league appearances across his first three seasons. This culminated in winning League Two as champions in 2021/22 and Dom was a key part of the history-making side.
Dom’s game has grown steadier and steadier over time, and the fans have noticed. Born in Gloucester, he’s a local lad who went to school in Upton St Leonards before joining Birmingham City’s youth programme, where he captained the Under-18s. He has represented the Republic of Ireland three times at youth level
