Katharine Lady Berkeley KS3 pupils arrived eagerly at the Fully Charged New Lawn just before half term, ready to learn about career opportunities in the field of sport.
The pupils had time to network with FGR staff across all our departments such as event management, partnerships, retail, hospitality, content, safeguarding, grounds and also had access to the community team and academy coaching staff and scholars.
The pupils were enthusiastic and asked fantastic questions about individual roles at the Club, Trust and Academy, taking the opportunity to receive career advice from a broad range of staff.
Sharron Bates and Nick Ford said: “It was great seeing the children given the opportunity to come to a football league club and ask questions regarding carers in sports. It’s an experience I’m sure they won’t forget. The pupils were fantastic throughout and were very curious about the different job roles on show at the football club.
"They were able to see how soft skills such as communication, team work and time management are vital in career opportunities not just in sport but across a range of industries.”
The group furthered conversations about volunteering opportunities, studying at university, taking on part time and full time work in different industries. They also accepted the challenges and goals required to reach a person’s ‘dream job’.
One pupil highlighted their passion with content creation and that the fact that this could potentially be an employment opportunity in the world of Rugby. They were made aware that steps can be taken to make this achievable through work experience, or other voluntary positions and it was useful for them to hear the accounts of the different journeys that staff had taken to work at FGR.
To see the enthusiasm that the pupils at KLB showed throughout the session was extremely pleasing and matches the values that are present at both KLB and here at FGR.
